Developing a Belted Sound
Being able to sing with a loud & powerful belted sound is ESSENTIAL to developing your voice. Not only does having a loud & powerful voice allow you to sing in intense styles, it also allows you to develop aspects of your voice that are not achievable by just singing softly. Without being able to sing a powerful belted sound, both your tone and range will always be underdeveloped.

In the video lesson above we start with a basic exercise jumping straight into the sound. If you experience any strain in your voice when doing the first basic exercise I want you to keep watching because I will run you through two “supplementary” exercises in order to avoid straining.

After you find a pitch that suits your voice and get comfortable with the exercises, I share a method of easily incorporating the belt directly into songs! In this lesson I’ve featured Linkin Park’s “Numb” as the song we are using to practice the vocal exercise.

Some Tips For The Lesson

– If you find it uncomfortable in anyway consider lowering the pitch of the exercises until you do not feel any strain.

– If you’re not confident that the sound you are making is correct, only practice it for 5-10 minutes a day

– If you’re unhappy with the sound of your belted tone, understand this lesson is only designed to help you create a safe belted sound. Learning to shape the sound will take extra time and work.
